Diabetes is a difficult disease to deal with. This disease occurs when the body is not able to product the insulin like it should or in some cases the body can’t use the produced insulin appropriately. This cause the blood sugar to be too high, which can be detrimental to the entire body. Although the disease in itself can be frustrating, there are a variety of complications with diabetes that can make this disease even more dangerous. Complication #1 – Kidney Disease – One of the complications with diabetes that can occur is kidney disease. You’ll find that the excess sugar that is in the blood often has to be filtered out by the kidneys. This can lead to problems with the kidneys. In some cases the kidneys get damaged and they can begin to fail. They can also stop being able to get rid of waste products, causing serious problems within the body.
Complication #2 – Heart Disease and Strokes – Heart disease and strokes can also be complications that come along with diabetes. Believe it or not, 66 % of people who have diabetes actually end up dying from either a stroke or a heart attack. Often along with diabetes comes high cholesterol and high blood pressure, which both can raise the risk of both strokes and heart attacks. So, these can be serious complications that can occur when you are dealing with diabetes.
If you have been diagnosed with diabetes it is vital that you educate yourself about the disease. Being diabetic does not have to be a death sentence. You can avoid these problems associated with diabetes by first educating yourself about the disease, changing your eating habits and talking to your doctor about ways to manage the disease.
