Diabetic Weight Loss

If you’re overweight and diabetic, weight loss should be one of your top priorities in life.  It’s a sad fact that diabetics do tend to carry excess weight.  Not only is this generally unhealthy, and unattractive, but it also makes diabetes worse in many cases. Losing weight can make your disease more manageable, less of a burden to you, and in many cases it can actually reverse Type 2 diabetes.  If you’re really out of shape, the good news is that the more overweight you are, the more of a beneficial impact losing the excess pounds can have for you.

When you’re diabetic, weight loss can be more of a challenge than for those who aren’t suffering from this ailment.  One reason is that diabetics tend to be less active than non-diabetics, and they also tend to exercise less than they did before they were diagnosed with the disease.  Everyone who’s physically able should strive for 45 minutes of exercise each and every day. If you’re out of shape, start by walking a short distance, and then increase it gradually.  This can make a big difference.  The other big reason for weight gain is that diabetics tend to feel deprived by their dietary restrictions, and tend to make up for it by eating more of their allowed foods.  Watch your calories!

Even if you’re not diabetic, weight loss should still be a goal if you’re overweight.  Because being fat is one of the conditions that can lead a person to develop Type 2 diabetes.  American obesity epidemic has gone hand in hand with its epidemic of Type 2 diabetes.  Being fat also puts a person at higher risk of all kinds of deadly diseases and ailments, such as cancer, heart attack, high blood pressure, strokes, etc.  So if you’re overweight or obese, whether or not you’re diabetic, weight loss is probably the single most important thing you can do to improve your health.  Don’t put if off any longer.
